Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) agreed with Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) for the improvement of Basic Social Services targeting the lagging behind regions.
355 Million Rupees allocated for this project and approved by the cabinet of Members on 01.06.2012.
From this Project, Base Hospital of Kaluwanchikudy was selected to implement this project. Steering committee and Project implementing unit were selected for this project.
Chief Secretary of Eastern Province was appointed as Chairman of Steering Committee and the following staff were the members of this Project.

Project manager of the Project Implementing Unit (PIU) was Dr. M. Thevarajan, PDHS, EP
1st meeting was held on 10.07.2012 to decide the Chairman for the Interview Board and confirm the members of the PIU. Mr. ULA. Azeez, Secretary of the Minisry of Health, EP was selected as interview board chairman.
